What's their problem??!! -

Recently, our competition has taken liberties with our marketing efforts and published these on their web page - we feel we should address these concerns - Below are their comments in italics and our answers to their apparent smear campaign..

Recently our competition makes repeatedly a feeling of unease among our customers promoting in some cases outrageous campaigns of cheap repair offers for our impact bodies. Thus, the risk of catastrophic results related to test safety is increased due to such repairs.

If cheap means inexpensive, they are quite right.

Several years ago PROCEQ used to have impact bodies allowing to exchange the impact ball by opening the impact body. This ball exchanges could and can only be executed by PROCEQ specialists and it is very important to use only exactly predefined ball material of a specific quality and origin. Unfortunately, a lot of ball exchanges were executed in an amateurish way by foreign companies, unknown shops and incompetent users. The hereby used ball material of undefined origin and the improper mounting led to fail with respect to quality specifications on our standard test blocks or later in production when used on different test material.

That's why each instrument is supplied with a test block. Simple verification will determine that the ball and the work performed to install it has been done to specification. We test every ball and have empowered our clients by providing tools and even Online Calibration/verification. The parameters of acceptance are the same as those prescribed by the ASTM specification for rebound testers.

Because of this PROCEQ decided in the case of impact body D to leave this concept and to use only fix mounted impact bodies, which in case of wear out can be exchanged by an as good as new impact body. Due to this process a constant high durability and reproducibility can be granted for each exchange impact body. PROCEQ uses only materials of determined quality, exactly specified by PROCEQ, and each piece is subject to rigorous quality inspection prior to use. Nowadays, impact body D will be destroyed and useless when tried to be improperly opened.

And ours are not destroyed or useless when opened - and if the customer sends one of their destroyed and useless impact bodies - we will exchange it - plus throw in a free instrument bag. I like our idea better.

Recently - against better knowledge - even former distribution partners are offering to our EQUOTIP® customers via Internet this non-sense of ball exchange and of using cheap copies of impact bodies.

Oh please - don't tell us what our "better knowledge" is. As mentioned, the exchanges are tested and the customers work can be tested on the the original test block. We provide all the documentation and maintain the records - we provide the method for the customer to service the product themselves without downtime and verify it was done properly.

We can at this point only repeat and stress the fact, that for our EQUOTIP® instruments exclusively original parts and components of PROCEQ have to be used. If not, the risk to loose the complete meaning of the test results with Original EQUOTIP® is very high. This especially holds for impact bodies from China, Japan and Germany, which look at first sight very similar like the original ones. But already slight deviations in the tolerances of the mass of impact bodies, of the position and geometry of the permanent magnet and of the wrong ball material cause very negative effects on the hardness testing results. Even if the verification test of the instrument occasionally meets the specified value of the standard test block, large deviations from the standard (ASTM A 956-02) over the whole hardness range are to be expected. All with distinct shorter durability in respect to the hard metal ball of the EQUOTIP® impact device D.

Really... Then why can the ASTM A 956 verify the Equotip® or other rebound testers in only one range - Is Proceq then saying that their testers must be tested in a number of ranges? Will this be the subject of the next ASTM specification - or is it to thwart competition?

The fact is Corvib offers replacement parts that are verifiable to standards established to control quality by third party engineering establishments. The meetings to establish the standards have involved participation from manufacturers and to our knowledge, this includes the Equotip manufacturer. Why, If these standards were good enough then, are they not good enough now?

At Corvib, we are most concerned because our intentions have been called into question and, we feel, the entire product line has been aspersed to achieve this end.
