  Pilodyn is an easy-to-use wood testing instrument which is suitable for trees, railway ties and utility poles.
 

How it works

An integral striking pin is spring-fired into the wood at a depth which is contingent upon the density. The scale readings provide an accurate indication of the presence of "soft rot". The Pilodyn is also useful for wood density comparisons.
